At a glance
The plant needed stable pallet movement through narrow aisles and floor storage. A compact forklift AMR now runs the route around the clock, including night shifts, and cut material-flow time by 30%.
About the plant
This is a commercial printing plant in China. Production runs through tight lanes, floor-stacked pallets and mixed shift patterns. Material had to keep up with the presses without adding another layer of manual forklift traffic.
The challenge
Manual handling made the flow uneven. Aisles were too tight for a conventional forklift to turn cleanly. Night and peak shifts were short of drivers, and pallet locations still depended on operator memory.
- Narrow aisles and floor storage left little room to turn.
- Night shifts and peak hours did not have enough forklift operators.
- Pallet moves were easy to mis-pick when the route lived in someone’s head.
The solution
The plant put a narrow-aisle forklift AMR on the same pallet jobs. Laser mapping runs the route without magnetic tape. Pallet pose detection finishes the last move, and the vehicle stays inside a 1.25 m turning radius in the tight lanes.
Missions come from the plant’s MES and WMS. When a move is released, the AMR picks, carries and places the pallet without a driver in the loop.
The result
Material-flow time fell by 30%. The same route now runs through the night and through peak hours. Operators moved off repetitive pallet transfers, and mis-picks from memory-based handling dropped out of the flow.
- 30% shorter material-flow time on the automated route.
- 24/7 coverage, including night shifts.
- 1.25 m turning radius keeps the vehicle inside the existing aisles.
