At a glance
The plant needed unmanned transfer of bagged cathode material across long aisles. Forklift AMRs now run 24 hours, lift efficiency 30–50% on the automated route, and cut transfer labor cost by 40%.
About the plant
This is a battery cathode-precursor plant in China. The site develops and produces precursor material for batteries, and needed a more stable way to move bagged loads through warehouse aisles without tying the flow to driver availability.
The challenge
Transfer work followed the shift pattern of forklift operators. Loads were heavy, aisles were long, and the plant needed the move to stay on takt when production did not stop overnight.
- Bagged material had to keep moving when operators were off shift.
- The route needed a controllable takt, not a queue behind a driver.
- Labor cost on repetitive aisle transfers was rising with volume.
The solution
Forklift AMRs now take the aisle jobs. Laser mapping runs the warehouse without magnetic tape. Automatic charging keeps the fleet on a 24-hour cycle, and a dispatch layer sequences repeatable missions for bagged pallets.
Operators remain in the plant for value-added work. The AMRs keep the transfer loop on a set takt instead of waiting for the next available driver.
The result
The handling loop now runs 24 hours. Efficiency on the automated route rose 30–50%. Labor cost on the transfer job fell by 40%.
- 24-hour coverage on the cathode-material aisle route.
- 30–50% efficiency gain where the AMRs replaced driver-paced moves.
- 40% lower labor cost on the transfer work.
